Taking Prostadine With Tamsulosin or Finasteride: Ask First
No study tests Prostadine with tamsulosin or finasteride, so nobody can say it is safe or unsafe together. Saw palmetto, pomegranate and neem each raise questions, and iodine matters for the thyroid. Ask your pharmacist, and never stop a prescribed medicine to try drops.

The basics01
What is the short answer?
Nobody knows, and that is the honest answer. No interaction study of the finished product with either drug exists in the sources we hold.
That means the safest course is to ask the pharmacist who dispenses your medicine. They see your full list, including over-the-counter products, and can check each against the ingredient list. The question takes a few minutes and costs nothing.
It also means you should keep taking your prescription as directed. A supplement is an addition at most, never a swap.
The evidence02
What do these two medicines do?
Tamsulosin relaxes muscle in the prostate and bladder neck to ease urine flow. It is taken once a day about 30 minutes after the same meal, and it can cause dizziness and fainting when you stand up quickly (MedlinePlus, Tamsulosin). Tell your eye surgeon if you take it before cataract surgery.
Finasteride lowers a hormone that drives prostate growth. It can take six months or more to improve symptoms, and side effects include erection problems and reduced desire. It also lowers PSA, so tell the lab and your doctor that you take it before any test (MedlinePlus, Finasteride).
The numbers03
Which Prostadine ingredients raise questions?
| Ingredient | Question to ask a pharmacist |
|---|---|
| Saw palmetto | Case reports of bleeding with blood thinners; liver and pancreas cases (MSK, Saw Palmetto) |
| Pomegranate | One case report with warfarin (MSK, Pomegranate) |
| Neem | Lab data showing liver enzyme inhibition; effect in people unknown (MSK, Neem) |
| Iodine and seaweeds | Thyroid medicines; ACE inhibitors and potassium-sparing diuretics (NIH ODS, Iodine) |
| Shilajit | One small trial; no interaction data (Pandit et al., Andrologia 2016) |
None of these is a proven interaction with tamsulosin or finasteride. They are the gaps in the evidence, and a pharmacist can judge them against your other medicines.
The catch04
Does it affect a PSA test?
Saw palmetto kept PSA the same as placebo did, even at high doses, per the sources we cite (MSK, Saw Palmetto). Finasteride and dutasteride do lower PSA, so doctors read the result with a lower cutoff for men who take them (NCI, PSA test).
The practical point is disclosure. Tell the person who orders the test about every drug and supplement, so the number is read in context. A hidden supplement or drug can cause a wrong conclusion in either direction.
Safety05
A short plan before you add anything
Make a list
Write down every medicine, vitamin and herb you take, with doses and times.
Bring the label
Show the pharmacist the ingredient list. We have it on our ingredients page.
Ask three questions
Does anything here clash with my medicines, with my thyroid or with an upcoming procedure?
Write down the answer
Keep it with your log, and tell your doctor at the next visit.
Do not stop or reduce tamsulosin or finasteride to try a supplement. Your prescriber should decide any change.
What to do06
Why is a pharmacist the right person to ask?
A pharmacist has your whole medicine record and training in interactions. They can tell you whether a pairing has a known problem, whether it needs spacing and whether anything on your list is a reason to avoid iodine. NCCIH says to tell all your health care providers about every supplement you use (NCCIH, Using Supplements Wisely), and the pharmacist is the easiest to reach.
If your pharmacist does not know a product, show them the ingredient list and the iodine warnings on our iodine and thyroid page. They can then give an answer that fits you.
FAQ07
Prostadine questions people ask
Can I take Prostadine and tamsulosin together?
No study has tested the pair, so nobody can promise it is safe. Ask your pharmacist, show them the ingredient list and keep taking the tamsulosin as prescribed.
Does Prostadine interact with finasteride?
No interaction study exists. Finasteride lowers PSA, and saw palmetto did not change PSA in the sources we cite. Tell your doctor about both before any test.
Can I use Prostadine instead of my prostate medicine?
No. A supplement does not replace a prescription, and the finished product has no published trial. Only your prescriber should change or stop a medicine.
Should I tell my eye surgeon about tamsulosin?
Yes. MedlinePlus advises telling your doctor before cataract surgery that you take or took tamsulosin, as it can affect the procedure. Mention any supplement as well.
